Preparatory Vocal Studies Preparatory vocal studies is a course specifically designed for younger children who express an interest in learning to sing properly, but who are not physically mature enough for the rigorous course of vocal study designed for mature adults. The course differs from adult vocal studies in that certain aspects of required training of the adult vocal instrument would be inappropriate, perhaps even harmful to the immature larynx. These specific disciplines are not demanded of youngsters, and the course replaces them with a preemptive type of training, teaching young students precisely not what to do that could be physiologically damaging to the natural instrument. At a young age, the vocal mechanism must be gently nurtured through its development not aggressively challenged! Trying to get a big sound out of a tiny, developing organ is a worst-case scenario! Thus Pre-Teen vocal studies place an emphasis on proper breathing, pitch control, comprehension of the elements of music and musical notation, rhythm and overall musicianship. Development of the "volume" of the voice, stretched range expansion and projection are carefully avoided until maturity! Close communication with the parents, and parental understanding of the course objectives is an absolute must. Preparatory Voice Studies at the studio are rated at $22.00/half hour (avg. $88/month). Availability Lessons are scheduled on weekdays from 3pm to 9pm, and on Saturdays from 9am to 3pm. Availability is subject to openings on each instructor's active roster.
Prerequisites There are no prerequisites (as far as experience) for acceptance as a Preparatory voice student at the studio, however, there are age restrictions. We generally do not book children under the age of approximately 12 years of age, however exceptions may apply after an interview attended with a parent. (Please refer to Vocal Studies) |
