Vocal Studies

Studio 46 offers outstanding vocal studies for the series student, whether your ambitions are to sing in a church choir, be a pop singer, or study art song and opera.

It can not be understated that the voice, while being the most accessible instrument one could possibly have, is also one of the most complex. This, in some part, is due to the fact that one cannot "see" their instrument (nor can the instructor). Add to that fact that the voice, as an instrument, has often been used incorrectly, over the years of "casual singing", whether it be through some karaoke fun or the occasional tune in the shower!

Proper vocal training is not just about singing… it’s about singing with the proper technique – one that is healthy and does not damage the vocal instrument!

Breathing, expanding range, developing the natural voice, vowel articulation, and even some "human anatomy" are all factors in proper vocal pedagogy. For this reason a course of study in vocal training requires that students be physically and mentally mature to handle all of these aspects. There is much more to vocal training than simply "singing the notes", and for this reason alone, enrollment for a course of vocal study has certain prerequisites (see below).

Voice lessons at the studio are rated at $22.00/half hour (avg. $88/ 4-week month).

Availability

Lessons are scheduled on weekdays from 3pm to 9pm, and on Saturdays from 9am to 3pm. Availability is subject to openings on each instructor's active roster.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites (as far as experience) for acceptance as a voice student at the studio, however, there are age restrictions.

PARENTS PLEASE NOTE:

We do not book students under the age of approximately 12 for a course of adult vocal study. Children under approximately age 15 are required to attend one interview, during which the parent must be present, at which time one of our vocal coaches will assess your child's physical ability and mental preparedness in order to determine if they are ready for a Preparatory course of vocal study. We do not guarantee placement in any vocal studies program during this interview, however, the instructor will inform both the child and parent how to prepare and nurture the voice for a course of future study, and may suggest enrollment in Preparatory Vocal Studies as an alternative until the child is ready for adult studies. The fee charged for this interview is the same rate as one lesson.

We are fully aware that other studios accept children as young as age six for vocal lessons, as we are aware of the "child stars" on the stage and screen. However, our instructors have good reasons for the age limitation in adult vocal studies. If you have a youngster that loves to sing, by no means discourage them, as the formative years are especially important when it comes to nurturing the voice. To address these issues, we offer a Preparatory Vocal Studies Course.
